Latest Phase Of St Neots Traffic Improvements About To Start
Cambridgeshire County Council is about to start the latest phase of work which will improve traffic flow and upgrade pedestrian crossings in the central area of St Neots.
Contractors will move to South Street/New Street which will be closed from October 22 for approximately four weeks. The overall £400,000 scheme is expected to be completed by the end of November.
The project will improve the High Street junctions with South Street, New Street, Church Street, Huntingdon Street, Cambridge Street with Tan Yard and Tebbutts Road, and the High Street pedestrian crossing points.
New equipment is being installed which detects traffic at or approaching the junctions and adjusts the traffic light phases to maximise traffic flow – ie if no cars are waiting to cross the junctions from a particular direction, the lights will stay at red to allow vehicles to flow across the junction from other directions as appropriate.
The work has entailed the suspension of some parking areas in to the town and the closure of junctions in turn to allow for safe working conditions and to protect pedestrians and drivers.
